Happy 1 week birthday baby girl!
This week has been a lot of emotions mixed into one! First off, we have completely enjoyed having you here with us and finally being a family of 3! We are settling in to our new lives quite well!
On Monday, we had your first appointment with your pediatrician. We chose to use Grand Strand Pediatrics in Little River SC. At your first appointment, you had lost down to 7.2 pounds. This is because you aren't eating as well. The doctor in the hospital wanted us to take you in on Monday because you had a slight case of jaundice, however, as of Monday, that was gone! We spoke with the pediatrician about you not wanting to nurse and she said that it was normal and to give you a few more days! We also talked with her about the fact that you haven't been to the bathroom since we left the hospital Sunday. You have tinkle diapers but no dirty diapers. Your tinkle diapers have a little bit of red in them, but she assured us that that was okay and it is coming from the vitamins you are getting from me! When we got home from your doctors visit on Monday, we spent the rest of the day hanging around the house. Your Daddy and Paw Paw spent most of their day working on our new house we will be moving in to at the end of the week. We are so excited about it! Cak spent her day loving on you and helping me around the house! Later Monday afternoon, my good friend, Lindsey came over with her Daddy for your first photo shoot. Mr. Brad took a lot of newborn pictures of you! We had a good time dressing you in different outfits for your first set of pictures! Cak cooked supper Monday night. Hamburger potato casserole and it was sooo good! We spent the rest of the evening around the house playing and loving on you!
On Tuesday, you still wouldn't eat! You were getting quite fussy so I called the lactation consultant at my OBGYN and she told me to come see her so she could maybe work with us. Daddy and I arrived and met with her for about an hour. You did pretty good so we came home. When we got home, I tried what she had told me and you continued to scream. You did this for your next 2 feedings. At 4:00 I called back to her and said things were worse and we headed back down to the beach to see her again! We stayed until 7:00 so she could help me through your next few feedings! We decided that you were going to need a little supplement to get your energy up because it had been since Sunday when you last ate good. I felt like you were getting dehydrated, so Dr. Norah gave me a little contraption to attach to me that would allow you to nurse while at the same time get formula from a bottle. I was REALLY emotional about this because I didn't want you to have a bottle and felt like I was doing something wrong because you wouldn't eat! Not to mention, you still hadn't pooped! So at 7:00 we headed to Aunt Meghan's to pick up her pump and then headed home. We had pizza for supper and Cak and I spent most of the night still trying to get you to eat! I completely believe I was part of the problem....uptight, etc!
On Wednesday, you still hadn't gone to the bathroom. I called your pediatrician and didn't really like the response so I got you an appointment with the pediatrician in Loris. We saw Dr. Richards. I really like him. He told us to give you an infant suppository to help you go and wanted to see you back on Thursday. He wanted to see you eating better and gain a little weight. As of this appointment you had lost down to 6.11 pounds! Of course, I became all emotional again that I was doing something wrong and I was hurting you because you were losing weight. He assured me you were fine! Back home we came to continue trying to get you to nurse! Daddy and Paw Paw spent the rest of the day working on the new house, while Cak and I were home with you! Thank goodness she was there and did all the cooking and cleaning for the week! I gave you your first suppository at 5pm.....at 10pm your Daddy gave you a bottle of formula to get you to eat. You were in the middle of eating and got a blank stare on your face and just looked at your Daddy! Next thing you know, you pooped! And boy did you poop! When I took your diaper off, you kept pooping! Your Daddy and Paw Paw ran out of the room on that diaper change! Needless to say afterwards you had to get a bath but at least you went! We were up most of the night with you crying because you wanted to eat and wouldn't. You are nursing a little, but not enough to satisfy you!
On Thursday morning I took you back to the pediatrican. You had gained a few ounces from the formula we had given you on Wednesday. I was still upset about you taking a bottle but was desperate for you to eat. He told me to continue what I was doing and he'd see me back on Monday. On Thursday afternoon, after school, Krystal came over to the house. Daddy and Paw Paw were working on the new house. Krystal came to help start packing up our stuff because we moved on Friday. As of Thursday, I hadn't touched a thing! I finally told her to just put and pack how she needed to. I went in to the nursery to feed, you started doing better today, and when I came out 45 minutes later, Krystal and Cak had almost everything packed up! I have to admit I got really upset seeing everything packed up. I am excited about our move but at the same time it is bittersweet to leave the house that your Daddy and I built together 4 years ago....with the help of our parents! After dinner, we enjoyed a nice, relaxing evening with Paw Paw and Cak around the house! At about 7:30, I started getting cold chills. I eventually ended up under about 4 blankets, achy, and cold and unable to move. I felt like I had the flu! My temp was 102 and I was miserable! Thank goodness you wanted to try to eat okay tonight because I felt bad!
On Friday morning I was still running a fever so I called my OBGYN and they wanted to see me immediately. Off to the beach to the doctor you, Daddy and I went again! Dr. Norah confirmed I just was overly engorged but FINALLY my milk had come in! You ate like a champ in the doctors office......your lazy streak could end as it was now easier for you to eat and boy did that make me feel better! When we got home from the doctor, Cak was packed up and ready to head back to Walhalla. She had to go back to work. We were sad to see her go but thankful she was there all week with us to help keep the house clean and to cook. It will be no time before you will see her again! We spent all night Friday night moving and packing up last minute items. We took a few loads of stuff to storage, had a nice dinner, thanks to your Nana and relaxed one last night before the big move on Saturday morning!
Paw Paw decided to stay an extra week to help us move and finish up some stuff at the new house. We will be living with your Nana and Papa until that gets done. Which by the way, I haven't mentioned them this week because Nana has been sick and they haven't been able to come over to see you, but none the less they have called to check on you every day!
Until week 2....We LOVE you to pieces! It's been a very emotional week for us moving and trying to get you to nurse but we have finally succeeded with getting you to eat! And we know that this move is going to provide many great opportunities for our family! We are so excited to have you here and to spend every waking moment with you! We fall asleep at night just looking at you and can't imagine what life was like before you arrived! You have captured our hearts baby girl!
